Before his time at Marietta, Eric Zeier played high school football in Heidelberg, Germany. When his family moved to Georgia, he quickly became a star quarterback and was the 1990 AJC, GSWA and Gatorade All-Classification Player of the Year, a Parade All-American and the SuperPrep National Player of the Year. During his senior year, Zeier was 136-of-231 passing for 2,484 yards with 28 touchdowns. He attended the University of Georgia where he finished in the top 10 of Heisman Trophy voting twice. Zeier set the school record for passing yards in a single game with 544 against Southern Mississippi in 1993. As a junior, Zeier completed a career-high 63.3 percent of his passes for a career-best 3,525 yards (first in the SEC), and 24 touchdowns. He was a first-team All-American in 1994. Until Peyton Manning broke the record at the University of Tennessee, Zeier held an SEC record with 11,153 career passing yards, which made him the third NCAA Division 1 quarterback to surpass 11,000. After college, he was selected in the third round of the 1995 NFL Draft with the 84th overall pick by the Cleveland Browns and played six NFL seasons. Zeier has been the color commentator on Georgia radio broadcasts since 2007.
