DAN REEVES

AMERICUS HIGH SCHOOL

During his high school years, Dan Reeves excelled as a multi-sport athlete playing football, basketball, and baseball, but it was on the football field where he truly shined. He attended Americus High School, and won MVP at the Georgia High School Football All-Star Game. His exceptional skills helped him earn a scholarship offer from the University of South Carolina. He was a three-year starter for the Gamecocks where he was named Second-Team All-Conference in his junior and senior seasons. Following his successful college career, Reeves was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent, where he played for eight years and won Super Bowl VI. Reeves embarked on a coaching journey after his playing career, and began as an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys in 1967, working under legendary head coach Tom Landry. In 1981, he was appointed as the head coach of the Denver Broncos, and would lead the team to three Super Bowl appearances. He was a head coach for 23 seasons, a position he held with the Broncos from 1981 to 1992, the New York Giants from 1993 to 1996, and the Atlanta Falcons from 1997 to 2003. Reeves was 201-174-2 as a head coach and 11-9 in the postseason, and was one of the most prominent figures not just in Atlanta but in the entire NFL during his coaching career.
