JARVIS JONES

CARVER-COLUMBUS HIGH SCHOOL

Outside linebacker Jarvis Jones left a legacy during his time as a four-star recruit at Carver-Columbus. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder helped Carver-Columbus to the program’s first and only state championship when it defeated Cairo 16-13 in the Class 3A title game in 2007, his junior year. The victory was the first championship for a Columbus public school since integration. Jones was named the Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and made 157 tackles, 26 tackles for losses, four sacks and two interceptions during the championship season. He was an AJC Super 11 selection entering his senior season in 2008 and was named First-Team All-State and USA Today Second-Team All-American. After playing in the 2009 All-American Bowl, Jones attended the University of Southern California but faced medical problems and transferred to the University of Georgia where he started two seasons and was a two-time First-Team All-SEC selection in 2011 and 2012, and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. He was a first round draft pick (17th overall) and played four NFL seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. He made two interceptions, four forced fumbles, 130 tackles, 46 assists and 11 tackles for losses in his career. Jones returned to school and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Human Development and Family Science in 2019.
